Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
What comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving?
As we enter the month of November, I have become mindful of Thanksgiving. My mind is filled with pictures of fall leaves on the trees as we drive to see family. I can smell the food being prepared for the big meal. I can hear the rowdiness get loud as the football game is watched intently. So many good things come to mind in thinking of Thanksgiving. If I am not careful, I can overlook some of the everyday blessings that I can be thankful for at any given moment.
God’s word teaches us that thankfulness is more than a holiday that we celebrate once a year. Thankfulness is an attitude that we are privileged to take on as a result of Jesus Christ and His lavish show of grace in our lives. As we count our blessings, our eyes are opened to the fullness of God’s love all around us. His love is found in blessed relationships that bring us joy. His love is found in the received gifts and acts of kindness shown to us. His love is found even in the very breath we have in our lungs.
We have so much to be thankful for. God, open our eyes to see how much Your goodness truly surrounds our lives. Let us lift up our hearts in thanksgiving to You each and every day. We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
